City of Herrin New Fire Station
In response to outgrowing their existing station, the Herrin Fire Department commissioned the Archimages’ Municipal Team to design a new, spacious, and modern station. The new facility features three double-deep, drive-through apparatus bays with training mezzanine and adjacent gear, SCBA, and decontamination rooms as well as a small repair shop. The living quarters include a well-appointed kitchen open to dining and dayroom areas to promote staff camaraderie. An adjacent outdoor patio offers outdoor grilling and relaxation. Individual bunk rooms offer privacy, lockers, and windows with darkening shades. Additional spaces include a fitness center, reception lobby, conference/training room, administration offices, and ICC 500 storm shelter. Natural daylight and views to nature are available throughout the station to provide stress reduction and support well-being. The station exterior blends traditional design and colors to integrate with the surrounding neighborhood.
