Unified Government of Wyandotte County / Kansas City Kansas Fire Department Station No. 12

The new, contemporary prototype design for Station #12 was developed by our design team to be adaptable for future facilities in urban and rural locations throughout the city. We worked closely with the fire and facility personnel to design a functional, healthy, stress-free environment that will promote a positive mental well-being of the firefighters. Program features include 10 bunk rooms, two drive through bays, a fitness center, living, dining, and support spaces. The modern, exterior materials include stone, brick, and metal elements along with tall glass bi-folding doors. The design incorporates environmental stewardship elements while providing for a low maintenance, flexible, and cost-effective facility. Our team extensively collaborated with the CMaR (construction manager at risk) to evaluate costs and select building systems to successfully bring the project in budget. Archimages services included architectural and interior design. The station is situated on a 4.5 acre parcel that includes the development of a future community park. This project was awarded the Public Works Project of the Year from the American Public Works Association - KC Metro Chapter.
