New Fire Stations #6, #8, and #13 – City of Springfield (IL)
The Springfield Fire Department undertook a major modernization, opening three new stations (Stations #6, #8, and #13) to improve response times and replace aging facilities. Project scope included analysis of multiple sites, test fit site plans and comprehensive design for each station. Future growth was taken into consideration in the design of the living quarters and the apparatus bay designs.
Each station features multiple apparatus bays, decon and SCBA rooms, multiple bunkrooms, kitchen/dining/dayroom areas, outdoor patios, fitness areas, and ICC 500 storm shelters. Station #6 also includes a community room and police substation to better serve the neighborhood. All designs address mental and physical health needs of staff.
