St. Charles County Ambulance District – New Administrative – Operations Center
After providing site/building feasibility studies and successful bond issue support, our Municipal Studio designed a new, Headquarters and Operations Center that consolidates operations from five existing SCCAD facilities and will provide for the District’s needs for decades into the future. The facility provides a modern administrative headquarters and an operations bay with service center that can hold up to 70 vehicles including motorized lifts. The spacious, partitionable training center can house over 200 individuals in a single room and will attract national-level speakers. Other features include simulation labs, emergency operations center, medical clinic with lab, fitness center, spacious community room, board room, various meeting rooms, comprehensive fleet maintenance facility with vehicle service, staging, storage, and operation distribution to provide exceptional service to the citizens of the county.
The site features support parking, exterior plazas, and an expansive vehicle training course with a pedestrian trail system. Bioretention basins ‘rain gardens’ were included to improve the water quality and manage stormwater runoff.
The building architecture incorporates a hardened exterior envelope to support the essential services mandate for the facility. The interior features numerous energy efficient design elements including LED lighting systems with occupancy sensors and “daylight harvesting” sensors that dim the lights according to demand when there is adequate light from the perimeter glazing.
Our Design Team intently focused on the wellness and safety of the staff. In the high traffic areas, all flooring is non-slip, has a very long-life cycle, and is very low maintenance. Worksurfaces are antimicrobial & easy to keep clean. Acoustic performance measures within the training rooms and office spaces provide for comfortable and focused environments.
Currently, Archimages also is designing multiple new base locations for the District across the County.
