Consolidated Fire District House #23 – Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2

Our Municipal Studio has designed a new single story, three-bay fire house for the Consolidated Fire District No. 2. The District needed a new, larger fire station but the City was landlocked, and after researching numerous sites, decided on the location within an existing city park. The site posed several challenges due to residential and park constraints on all sides and difficult access to the main roadway. Our design team provided extensive analysis, site planning, and station design to provide an efficient, cost effective, and functional station responsive to the District’s needs.

The facility features apparatus bay glass overhead doors with a brick and stone façade to effectively blend with the surrounding neighborhood. Additional features include eleven bunk rooms, custom kitchen cabinetry with an island and open concept into the dining room. The spacious, tiered dayroom offers an environment for the crew to unwind and relax. Their wellness/fitness facility is outfitted with various training equipment and includes locker rooms. Program included administration spaces, EMS service and storage, decontamination room with appropriate ventilation, and a mezzanine for storage and training. The site also includes storm water management with detention underneath the parking area and features a butterfly garden as a buffer from nearby residential property.
